How is biltong made?Updated 4 days ago
Making biltong is a simple but time honoured process that hasn't changed much in hundreds of years:
- Marinate: we marinate whole cuts of organic grass fed beef in gluten free white vinegar, which acts as a natural antimicrobial agent
- Spice: we rub the meat with salt and our signature spice blends
- Air dry: we hang the meat and air dry it for 7 days at room temperature, slowly drawing out all of the moisture
- Slice & pack: once dried to perfection, we slice the biltong thin and pack it into air sealed bags with an oxygen absorber to keep it fresh
No cooking, no preservatives, no shortcuts, just real meat and real ingredients. 🙂
