Our biltong is made from just three things: organic grass fed meat, vinegar and spices. No sugars, no artificial ingredients, it's about as clean a meat snack as you'll find.
The common concern around eating biltong during pregnancy is the risk of listeria. A bacteria associated with raw or underprocessed meat. However, we take multiple steps to prevent this:
- All meat comes from suppliers with rigorous food safety testing
- We marinate in white vinegar, which has strong antimicrobial properties
- We air dry the product to remove all moisture, which prevents bacterial growth
That said, we're not medical professionals, and we'd always recommend speaking with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about specific foods during pregnancy.
